Trade Show Strategies and Desiar

By Mindi Lewis, MA, ABOC, FNAO
Tuesday, September 6, 2016 1:15 PM My mentors in independent Opticianry were a husband and wife team. They did a lot of things exceptionally well and initiated me into the business aspects of running a profitable independent optical location. They carried unique and exceptional frames, magnifiers and accessories. A few of the many things I learned from them was the importance having new frame lines and clever and beautiful accessories that our competitors did not have or carry. When a patient walked into our location and asked the question “What’s New?” we always had an answer and something exciting to show.

Your patients are seeking crisp, clear vision – the best achievable vision. The little-understood truth is that the greatest possible vision is dependent upon the confluence of many elements. It begins with a carefully produced refraction followed by the choice of a frame that properly holds the lenses consistently in the exact right position.

Are You Using Your Silent Sales People? Sales-Propelling Displays

By Mindi Lewis, MA, ABOC, FNAO and Susan Mattisson, Visual Merchandiser

Display and window designs are called “silent sales people” in the retail world and they are used to communicate a message, form a visual image of a business, “invite” patients in and call attention to eyewear and other products. Looking outside our industry we know that well designed displays and windows propel sales. It is more than worth the time and investment to create optical displays that have an impact and draw patients into your dispensary.

Glorious summer is upon us, and it’s been a long cold lonely winter for some. National Sunglasses Day is June 27th, and all eye care providers should take advantage of the opportunity to “shine a light” (pun completely intended) on sunwear.

Business has changed for many industries, not just the optical industry. Lately, I’ve been curious about how other companies were changing their business model to compete. I began researching how other companies are using customization of their products to increase their business and appeal to new customers.
